CHRIST teaches on Discipleship - Luke 14

25 Now large crowds were going along with JESUS; and HE turned AND SAID to them,
26 “If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life [IN THE SENSE OF INDIFFERENCE to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God]—he cannot be My disciple. 27 Whoever does not carry his own cross [EXPRESSING A WILLINGNESS to ENDURE whatever may come] AND FOLLOW after ME [BELIEVING in ME, CONFORMING to MY EXAMPLE in LIVING and, if need be, SUFFERING or perhaps DYING BECAUSE OF FAITH in ME] cannot be MY DISCIPLE….  33 So then, none of you can be MY disciple WHO DOES NOT [CAREFULLY CONSIDER the cost and then for MY sake] GIVE UP ALL his own possessions. 34 “Therefore, salt is good; but if salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned?  35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear and heed My words.”

Friends, this means that THE LORD DOES NOT wants us to place anyone or anything above HIS level; because actually THERES NOTHING OR NOT ONE that can match HIM, what HE has done, is doing or will ever do, not like HIM. Whatever we are dealing with in life is either a result of things we’ve done or it’s a test for us to find out where we are in Christ.  As we carry on life, dealing with these will help us to mature in our Christian walk at the same time that will increase our testimony for the world to see how when in our reckless lives, and even when we were “unlovable”, we cried out to our Heavenly Father, and in HIS infinite mercy, HE heard and in love came to our rescue.

The LORD is giving us a warning for us to realize that the road will not be so easy, for some of those things that we’ll have to deal in life will be sour to the point that if we do not properly deal with them we can take the risk of becoming tasteless… NOT GOOD!

As the New Year approaches, let’s make up our mind, that we will conform to JESUS’ example; willing to give up whatever entangles us to the things of this world to become HIS disciples, embracing HIS Word and HIS ways.  To go where HE sends us, speaking only what HE tells us to, when HE tells us to, and for the glory of God, that’s my prayer for us today, in JESUS name, AMEN!!!
