Becoming an Abraham – Genesis 12-18

And Who was Abram?
Abram was Noah’s grandson – the son of Noah’s oldest son, Shem

When we give things to our children without teaching them that earning those things with their own effort will not only bring satisfaction but entitlement and maturity, they will grown to believe they deserve the world just because we loved, will take things for granted. They’ve been spoiled, and then will come back at us, saying “but I thought you loved me!” thinking that not agreeing with them means we do not love them…. Not true! Neither we can depend that because we come from a long line of men and/or women of God, we will just follow in place without a relationship; we HAVE to develop our own dependency on the Source of life.

According to the European-American Evangelistic Crusade[1], Noah was still alive when Abraham was born, and died when Abraham was 58 years old. Shem, the son of Noah died 35 years after Abraham died. The entire blood line of Shem was still alive, when Abraham was born.  With Noah born only 126 years after the death of Adam, and was Seth alive until 14 years before the birth of Noah, we can see that the passing of information from one generation to the next had plenty of time, and that each generation had a full knowledge of God.

You see to become a man or a woman of faith, like Abraham was, we have to develop a relationship with God.  Although Abram’s father, Shem and Grandfather Noah were men of great faith, he had to experience on his own, because only getting things straight from the source, he would be able to make it in life. Was he perfect? No; neither are we.  That’s why we HAVE to learn to depend on GOD; because only then every time we mess up, God can help us to go thru with the needed strength to face the consequences of those mistakes, and learn from them.  Only God’s merciful love provides us with what we need; so LET'S SEE WHAT ABRAM DID.

Genesis 12:1-8
When Abram was seventy-five years old, the Lord said to him, Leave4 So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed…” ….7Then the Lord appeared to Abram And Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 After that, Abram traveled south…. There he built another altar and dedicated it to the Lord, and he worshiped the Lord.

Genesis 13
1Abram left Egypt and traveled north.... built the altar, and there he worshiped the Lord again....
18 So Abram moved his camp to Hebron… There he built another altar to the Lord.

Genesis 15 – (A long conversation)
1After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision,… 2 But Abram said, …
4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, …. 6 And he believed in the Lord,
7 Then He said to him, …. 8 And he said, “Lord God… 9 So He said to him, “Bring Me
10 Then he brought all these to Him…  13 Then He said to Abram18 On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, ...

Genesis 17 – (Another long/deep conversation)
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said…, 3 At this, Abram fell face down on the ground. Then God said to him9 Then God said to Abraham, “YOUR RESPONSIBILITY IS to OBEY … 15 Then God said to Abraham, … 17 Then Abraham bowed down to the ground, but he laughed to himself in disbelief. “How could I become a father at the age of 100?” he thought. “And how can Sarah have a baby when she is ninety years old?” 18 So Abraham said to God,… 19 But God replied… 22 When God had finished speaking…”

As seen, no matter how young or old you might be, never is too late to start!  Abram was 75.
·         And the Lord say go, and so Abram went!
·         And the Lord promised, and Abram believed, and worshiped Him.
·         Abram traveled south, as he stopped, he built and altar, and worshiped.
·         Abram traveled north, as he stopped, he built and altar, and worshiped.
·         Abram moved, settled somewhere else, and he built and altar, and worshiped.

Then in chapter fifteen and seventeen Abram had two long conversations with GOD; notice that in this conversation as it should be, one speaks, and the other one listens; then vice versa, the one who spoke first now remains in silence while the one who was silence first now speaks.

See my friends, this is the way…. CONVERSE with GOD, DAILY!

1.       LISTEN to what GOD has to say, and then follow HIM and worship.

2.       Speak to HIM.

3.       Then LISTEN what He has to say (sometimes you will hear HIM speaking to your mind or in a vision, other times, as you READ HIS Word, you will hear HIM speak)

I pray if you have not started yet, choose this day to start developing your relationship with OUR CREATOR, GOD! Try it for yourself, you will never be the same again, guarantee!!!
