15 And it happened, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah.... came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. 16 Now the young woman was very beautiful to behold, a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the well, filled her pitcher, and came up. 17 And the servant ran to meet her and said, “Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher.”
18 So she said, “Drink, my lord.” Then she quickly let her pitcher down to her hand, and gave him a drink. 19 And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.” 20 Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels. 21 And the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not.
22 So it was, when the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a golden nose ring weighing half a shekel, and two bracelets for her wrists weighing ten shekels of gold, 23 and said, “Whose daughter are you? Tell me, please, is there room in your father’s house for us to lodge?”….. 25 Moreover she said to him, “We have both straw and feed enough, and room to lodge.” …26 Then the man bowed down his head and worshiped the Lord. 27 And he said, “Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren.” 28 So the young woman ran and told her mother’s household these things….32 Then the man came to the house. And he unloaded the camels, and provided straw and feed for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him. 33 Food was set before him to eat, but he said, “I will not eat until I have told about my errand.”
57 So they said, “We will call the young woman and ask her personally.” 58 Then they called Rebekah and said to her, “Will you go with this man?” And she said, “I will go.”… 61 Then Rebekah and her maids arose, and they rode on the camels and followed the man. So the servant took Rebekah and departed…. 66 And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. 67 Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her.”
I am not sure Rebekah knew when she woke up that morning her day would end as special as it did. As Rebekah went about her day, she stopped at the spring to get water, most likely as she used to, but then she met a stranger who approached her. This stranger reminds me to Jesus who went to the well and “as a stranger” asked a woman there the same thing as the man who approached Rebekah who happened to be a servant of Abraham asked, “Please give me a drink”; and thereafter both women’s life forever changed.
The account does not says that Rebekah had been
praying to meet a special someone, only says she was a beautiful young woman,
still a virgin and old enough to be married who in need of water went to the
well. However it does say there was a
man praying for a woman who would act like Rebekah did, in other words, someone
was praying for her, Abraham.
A difficult task, an impossible one, if you asked me,
had been given to Abraham, to go find a bride to arrange Isaac’s marriage, who
was his servant’s son. But because Abraham
didn’t know the woman, and The Lord didn’t give him specific details for him to
identify the woman either, therefore the best thing to do was praying for the
Lord to intervene, for Him to actually “show him”, in a way he REALLY could clearly
understand God’s will, so he ask for a sign.
Whoever was God’s chosen one, when this servant would ask that woman for
water for him, she would offer some for his animals too. And so it happened; the first woman he asked
was the chosen one, Rebekah answered just this servant proposed the Lord.
Because someone was someone praying for her, she
was led by the spirit to offer the water for his camels and after
that show hospitality to him the way she did.
An in order to reconfirm the miracle that just
happened before his eyes, verse twenty-one says that he remained silent to make
sure the Lord had answered his prayers and made his journey a worth it one.
Only after this reconfirmation, he blessed Rebekah with some jewelry (like he knew
us woman love jewelry). Another reconfirmation was needed by this servant in
verse fifty-seven, when they asked her if she wanted to go, with her positive
answer there were no more doubts. So he was eager to go back to his master with
the new bride.
This is a GREAT example of the correct way to make decisions.
This way showed and proved itself to be God’s way. When have to choose the way
to go, and we proposed to God for the door to close if it’s not His way, He
will show us, the door will remain open is it’s His way, otherwise it will
close; this will answer and prove to us the way to go. And if a reconfirmation is needed, we just
have to make another proposition to the Lord; as I tell my students, make it as
hard as you might need to, God will answer because you’re doing it as a request
TO KNOW what really is His will for you to follow.
God LOVES you to follow Him! Any “good” parent would
lead the kids for the right path especially if they’re young and tell us that don’t
know where to go; then how much more GOD? Who knows all our past and even our future!
God’s ways are perfect, so I encourage you to try
it! If you need me to help you understand it better, inbox me any question, and
I’ll be happy to answer it for you.
After you start applying this Abraham’s servant technique
as you take your next decision you will discover the power of prayer, in a
powerful way! And your future will be brighter, guarantee! Just like this servant was praying for Rebekah, I AM PRAYING for you, and for THE LORD to provide every single confirmation you need to walk the way HE WANTS you to from today and until the rest of your life.
