“1
One day when Isaac was old and turning blind, he called for Esau, his
older son, and said, “My son.”… 2 “I am an old man now,” Isaac said, “and I don’t know when I may
die…. go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me. 4 Prepare
my favorite dish, and bring it here for me to eat. Then I will pronounce the
blessing that belongs to you, my firstborn son, before I die.” 5 But
Rebekah overheard what Isaac had said to his son Esau…. 8 Now, my
son, listen to me. Do exactly as I tell you. 9 Go out
to the flocks, and bring me two fine young goats. I’ll use them to prepare your
father’s favorite dish. 10 Then take the food to your father so he can eat it and bless you
before he dies.”…. 14 So Jacob went out and got the young goats for his mother. Rebekah
took them and prepared a delicious meal, just the way Isaac liked it…. 25 Then
Isaac said, “Now, my son, bring me the wild game. Let me eat it, and then I
will give you my blessing.” So Jacob took the food to his father, and Isaac ate
it. He also drank the wine that Jacob served him. 26 Then
Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come a little closer and kiss me, my son.”
WATCH WHAT YOU SAY!!!
Young people will think, as such, we can’t expect them to
act as adults; whether is a person who knows the Lord or not. A new convert or
a young Christian will not think like a mature or season Christian. And we all been there, and done that! That’s
why this lesson today the earlier in life we learn it, the better for us and
our future generations.
In this account a father of two “boys”, now grown. One was
and outdoor guy, a skillful hunter, his name was Esau; the other one a quiet
temperament, an indoor guy, named Jacob. And the account says that one day,
while the hunter brother was out in the field, his brother Jacob cooked a delicious
stew that I’m sure filled the house with a great aroma, and when starving Esau
walked in the house the stew intense aroma moved every part of him, and he
asked for a share. As siblings sometimes do, Jacob asked for a trade, if Esau
wanted the stew so bad he would have to give away his birthrights as firstborn.
That’s a double whopper with every all the fixings!!!
Sometimes we don’t think our words have the power of bringing
us good or bad things. So we just speak, left and right, sometimes very
carelessly. And if what the subject in
question has to do with an “afterlife” thing…. “Nah!!!” Unfortunately, we just
do not pay enough attention to it, or give any value for “that’s for when I get
REALLY old, and my parents age really bad and get ready to die” (like we are
talking about hundreds of years from now)…
This chapters do not give us details of the years passed between
the time Esau gave away his birthright and Isaac starting to lose his sight needless to
say he was feeling his day on earth were coming to an end. As a father, he wanted to leave his business
in order for when the time would come. So he called his oldest. What Isaac didn’t
know is that long time ago, Esau had given up his blessing rights for a meal
plate. So when the mother overheard the
conversation, between the father and the son, she remembered that incident were
her oldest had sold his birthrights over
a meal long time ago to the youngest child; and decides spill the beans to
Jacob, so he could come to claim what “rightfully” belong to him.
I’m sure we all heard the saying, “one people’s trash is
someone else’s treasure”, and this is what happened here, Esau didn’t appreciate
what Jacob considered a treasure. From this
incident there are many things we can learn, but the most important that I will
address today is WATCH YOUR WORDS, because they WILL COMPROMISE YOUR FUTURE!
As Christians we represent CHRIST, and if you reject HIM,
although HE IS FAITHFUL, if you reject HIM, HE will let you go and do, even
when HE knows HE has way more good things for you than whatever you can bring
or provide for yourself. IF as CHRIST son/daughter you reject HIM, you’ll be
rejecting to your birthrights, and someone will take your blessing, please don’t!
I’m praying the LORD will reveal you, that special blessing
HE has for you, and I pray you open your heart to receive be able to see it, so
you can claim it, for HIS glory; and I pray in JESUS name, AMEN!!!
